The Bajaj Pulsar P150 is a 150cc commuter bike that directly rivals the Yamaha FZ-Fi. The Chakan-based two-wheeler manufacturer introduced the new iteration of this 150cc bike in October 2021. As you must be knowing, the Pulsar bikes have proven to be among the bestselling bikes in the country. In addition, if you didn’t know this, the indigenous bike manufacturer partnered with the Austrian bike manufacturer, KTM.
On the other hand, the Honda Unicorn is also considered one of the direct rivals of the Pulsar P150, albeit it belongs to the 160cc segment. It can also compete in the 150-180cc segment.
However, as far as the figures are concerned, the Honda Unicorn has only one variant, which carries a price tag of Rs 1.05 lakh.
So, if you are strict on budget, you should consider the Honda Unicorn, whereas, if you are okay to shell out slightly extra, you can, of course, consider a better offering, i.e., the Bajaj Pulsar P150. There are other Honda bikes that can rival with several feature-loaded bikes, and that too, with a good performance.
Let’s proceed and see how these two bikes stack up against each other.
Specifications
For starters, let’s talk about a bike with a big engine displacement, and that is the Honda Unicorn. The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer built the Unicorn on their in-house developed Diamond chassis, which supports a 162.7cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 12.73 bhp at 7500 rpm and 14 Nm of peak torque at 5500 rpm.
On the other side of the other coin, the indigenous bike manufacturer developed the Bajaj Pulsar P150 on a steel cradle frame that carries a 149.68cc single-cylinder, an air-cooled unit that is tuned to produce 14.29 bhp at 8500 rpm and 13.5 Nm of peak torque at 6000 rpm.
Weighing the engine outputs of these two locally-produced bikes, the Bajaj Pulsar seems to be a better performer here. The Honda Unicorn torque is marginally higher, while its peak power is lower than the Bajaj P150. You should check the Pulsar P150 price if you are a performance-oriented buyer.
Engines & Transmission
Both engines are coupled with a five-speed manual transmission. Further, the clutch plate on new-age bikes, especially BS6 bikes, incorporates a wet multiplate clutch that offers smoother gear shifts and better durability over the conventional dry multiplate clutch. Speaking of gear shifts, the wet multiplate clutch won’t let you lament, even when you are riding a bike at high speeds. Gone are the days, when bikes used to demand maintenance, especially for clutch breakdowns because they used to have a lot of wear and tear, due to the dry multiplate clutch.
As far as fuel efficiency is concerned, these two BS6 bikes won’t let you lament about the running costs. Thanks to the fuel-injection technology for making BS6 bikes fuel efficient than ever before. This technology offers a clean fuel supply system, which makes the engine’s pistons move smoothly, due to which, the bike becomes less polluting. It also helps in switching on the bike on a cold start. BS4 bikes had the cold-start problem. So, these are a few advantages of owning a BS6 bike.
The Honda Unicorn’s mileage is rated at 50 km/l, while the Bajaj Pulsar P150’s mileage is 48 km/l. Please note that these mileage figures are as per the feedback from the owners across the country. However, you can also check out the Unicorn’s price on the autoX domain.
In addition, it is also worth noting that the real-world mileage figures can vary with local traffic conditions and individuals’ riding styles.
Suspension
Besides the engine output, let’s move on to the suspension setups on these two bikes. The Bajaj Pulsar P150 has a 31mm telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock suspension at the rear. This setup is common among all budget commuting bikes. The same setup is offered on the Honda Unicorn. Having said that, both these commuter bikes are often seen making interstate journeys, as their suspensions are tuned as per the Indian roads, due to which they are able to absorb the bumps from potholes buttery smooth. However, it is recommended to take a vehicle’s test ride, as personal experiences can vary from person to person.
As for the brake arrangements, the buyer can either choose a single-disc variant or a double-disc variant, whereas the Honda Unicorn has only one variant that offers a disc-drum setup. It is also worth mentioning, that when bikes’ dual-disc brakes work in tandem with dual-channel ABS, they tend to reduce the chances of mishaps, as they can prevent them from skidding or from making a stoppie.
As far as the ABS is concerned, the Bajaj Pulsar P150’s base model offers a single-channel ABS, while its top model offers a dual-channel ABS. On the contrary, the Honda Unicorn has a standard single-channel ABS. Bajaj bikes usually offer several features in terms of convenience and safety. Features
Let’s begin with the Honda Unicorn’s features. It has an analogue instrument cluster, automatic headlights-on feature, and halogen lights setup.
On the other hand, the Bajaj Pulsar P150 caters to new-age buyers, as it boasts of offering a fully digital instrument cluster, a USB charging port, a digital fuel gauge, a gear shift light, a digital clock, alongside all-LED lights.
So, these are a few exclusive features of these bikes. You can, however, access the full list of features and specifications on autoX.
