When is Your House Electrically Safe – Residential Electrician in Sydney
Causes of electrical fires at home
- Old or damaged electrical wiring is often the result of poor installation or maintenance, and it can be a major fire hazard. Avoid this by making sure that all your electrical work is carried out by a residential electrician. Also, regular maintenance such as checking for loose wires and replacing wiring with damaged insulation can help to prevent electrical fires.
- Overloaded power sockets or circuits are a common cause of electrical fires in Australian homes. When too many appliances are plugged into one socket, the circuit can become overloaded and overheat, causing a fire. To avoid this, only plug in as many appliances as the socket can safely handle. If you need to use multiple appliances, connect them to different circuits.
- Overloaded power points are a particularly common problem, as people often try to plug too many devices into one socket. This can create a dangerous build-up of heat, which can eventually lead to a fire.
- Faulty appliances can also be a major cause of electrical fires, so it’s important to regularly check your fridges, ovens, and other appliances for any signs of damage. If an appliance has a short circuit or faulty wiring, it can overheat and catch fire. To avoid this, always buy appliances from reputable brands and have them regularly inspected by a qualified electrician (we’d be happy to help). You should also install safety switches and don’t use appliance if it develop a fault.

About SparkyNearby
Back in the early 2000s, Tom (Managing Director) completed his apprenticeship with a high-end residential construction company called Panda Electrical. After the GFC hit in 2009 and construction jobs started to dry up, Tom took a job with a small but long-established electrical maintenance company called Bruce Scott & Co.
In all that time Bruce came to know every trick in the book concerning residential and commercial electrical work. These skills were dutifully passed onto the Tom during his 7 years working there.
Bruce eventually decided it was time to hand over the reins to Tom, and under new management the company was renamed MetElec. Bruce has stayed on in an advisory role and is still found solving electrical problems in Sydney’s East.
Since coming under Tom’s management, the company has grown to 5 members and now serves the whole of Sydney with the same commitment to customer service, technical knowledge, and great prices.
