Litti chokha
Hailing from the states of Bihar and Jharkhand, Litti Chokha derives its savory origins from the traditional sattu and powder gram nut or chana. A flavoring of a variety of spices and condiments makes it delicious and a topping of striking tempering and fresh coriander leaves is simply irresistible.
Misal pav
Quintessentially from Maharashtra. Misal is ‘Usal’ which is a watery consistency curry which involves preparation of sprouted lentils and topping of batata-bhaji, poha, Chivda, farsan, raw chopped onions and tomato. This famous Indian food is always served with roll-type bread called Pav and lemon wedges.
Puttu kadala
For a Malayali, nothing is more comforting than a piping hot plate of Puttu and Kadala curry. It is a staple of almost every household in Kerala. Puttu is a cylindrical-shaped roll prepared with ground rice, layered with coconut or banana shavings and then steamed. It is served with Kadala curry that comprises Kala chana, or black chickpeas, cooked in roasted coconut gravy.
Vindaloo
Vindaloo is another famous dish of Goa you must try. Vindaloo is a classic hottest Indian curry, made with diced chicken or lamb, garlic, hot chilis and wine or vinegar. This is a derivation from a Portuguese dish of meat in a marination of wine-vinegar and garlic. Portuguese brought this dish when they made it to Goa in the 15th century. Franciscan priests then adopted the dish replacing wine-vinegar with palm wine.
Bisi Bele Bath
Bisi Bele Bath is basically “Hot Dal, Rice and vegetables blended like porridge and served with boondi (deep-fried chickpea flour). It usually has a seasoning of freshly ground spices and is a common breakfast or lunch dish across the southern peninsula. It has a naturally sweet and flavorful taste owing to the addition of sugar in the dish. This dish gives you all reasons to eat rice daily.
Handvo
It is a savoury lentil cake, an extremely well-known one-dish supper in Gujarati households. Like most other snacks, the handvo taste the best and delightful with tart green chutney. A batter of lentils rice and veggies is baked or cooked like a cake and topped with sesame seed flavoring making them simply overpowering!
