Get grants for dental implants

Finding affordable dental services can be difficult, but there are free and low-cost federal grants for dental implants options in Texas. Dental care options vary depending on a person’s age, where they live, and how much money they make. 

2-1-1

Calling 2-1-1 or visiting 211Texas.org is a great first step to finding dental services near you. The online locator searches by zip code or you can use the guided search to find dental programs near you. Help is available in more than 90 languages, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 

Texas Health Steps and CHIP 

Most children and young adults age 20 and younger who are covered by Medicaid or CHIP  receive dental services through a dental managed care plan. The following three dental plans offer services statewide for Children’s Medicaid (Texas Health Steps) and CHIP members who qualify for dental coverage.

Call Texas Health Steps toll-free Monday through Friday at 877-847-8377 (877-THSTEPS) for help finding a dentist or scheduling a checkup. 

Medicaid for pregnant women

Low-income pregnant women may be eligible for Medicaid health care benefits. These benefits are available during pregnancy and up to 2 months after the baby is born. You may also be able to receive dental benefits through Medicaid managed care medical plans. Check your medical plan to see if it includes dental benefits.

Case Management for Children and Pregnant Women can help pregnant women who are at high risk for health problems during pregnancy. If you have Medicaid, contact a case manager in your region to see if you qualify for services. A case manager can help you find dental services.

Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs)

Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), also known as community health centers, provide comprehensive health care services to communities most in need. Many of the Texans they help are homeless or lack health insurance. Some of these FQHCs offer additional services, such as dental, mental health, or substance abuse treatment.

Title V Maternal and Child Health Fee-for-Service Program

The Title V program is for low-income women and children who are not eligible for Medicaid, CHIP, or other payer coverage for the same services. People under the age of 21 can receive dental services. Pregnant women can also receive these services up to three months after giving birth.

Dental hygiene clinics

Most dental hygiene programs have a dental clinic on their premises that accepts patients from the general public. Treatment is performed by students and supervised by licensed clinical instructors. Types of dental treatment, cost, and waiting times vary. Contact the nearest  dental hygiene clinic for more information.

Most Texas dental schools have a clinic on campus that accepts patients from the general public. Treatment is performed by students who are in turn supervised by licensed clinical instructors. The process for becoming a patient varies. Contact the program to find out what specific requirements it has.
