The NVQ/SVQ in Occupational Work Supervision (OWS) was designed to meet industry demand for a higher-level team leadership and supervision qualification. There was no suitable vocational occupational or supervisory certificate available at level 3 (SCQF L6).
It was also thought that the Construction Site Supervision N/SVQ was too broad in scope and demand, and that specialized supervisors couldn’t achieve it.
It was clear after consultation with stakeholders that while the duties of a supervisor are typical across numerous vocations, to be successful an occupational supervisor must be competent in the occupational sector being guided.
This was done to ensure that everyone entering the workforce had a basic understanding of the company’s specific working methods, quality standards, and health and safety requirements. As a result, it was decided that when an overall supervisory credential like
OWS is used, it should be on the condition that certifying organizations verify:
- Prior to being registered for the Occupational Work Supervision credential, candidates must have demonstrated competence and experience in their field of expertise.
- If you have a question about this data, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.
- Second, the individual must have had sufficient occupational competence to oversee that occupation sector.
