The Complete Kodachadri Trekking Guide
Introduction
Kodachadri is a popular trekking trail in Karnataka and is located in the Shimoga district. The Kodachadri walk, located
in the heart of the Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary, offers hikers an adventure, charm, and an experience to remember.
The Kodachadri journey takes you through a pleasant hamlet setting with rice fields, thick woodlands, lush grasslands, and a spectacular waterfall.
The lush meadows and hills that surround the summit are stunning. You will also have the opportunity to see a temple that is thought to have been erected thousands of years ago and is steeped in history. Imagine going to a location with legends dating back to the 7th century AD, aside from the mythology! This is where Adi Shankara, a great philosopher, and theologian, visited and pondered at the peak.
On the western ghats walk-in Karnataka, there aren’t many stories and history to be found. Anyone can complete this walk on their own because there are various approaches. It is a paradise for first-time hikers, intermediate hikers, and experienced hikers alike.
What to Look For
1. A View of Rolling Green Hills
The breadth of gorgeous lush green rolling hills that make up the Kodachadri Trek is well-known. The hills are densely
forested and spread for miles in every direction. The meadows with the Shola forest appearing at a height of 5,735 feet
are what you see on the Kodachadri walk.

2. Hidlumane Waterfalls

Hidlumane waterfalls are a type of humane. You must take a swim in the chilly water pouring down, or at the very least have your feet inside these waters.
3. Mythology, Legends, and Mookambika’s Temple
Aside from trekkers, you’ll witness tourists and pilgrims ascending to Kodachadri’s top. The Goddess Mookambika is
said to have fought and killed the demon Mookasura in this stone structure.

The Kodachadri hike takes you through some of the Western Ghats’ lush Shola forests. A fantastic experience for any
trekker who enjoys traveling beneath dense forest canopy and getting the appropriate amount of exposure.
Information on the Trail
The Kodachadri Trek is accessible through base settlements. The walk can begin in either Nittur or Kattinahole, or
possibly Vallur.
If you are driving to the base, begin your trek from the Kattinahole side settlement. You can either join the route at Hidlumane Falls or drive to Kodachadri Top via the jeep track (a less exciting option with a constant movement of jeeps on the mud trail).
Where to Begin your Journey
Begin your journey early in the day. If you took an overnight bus from Bangalore, you will arrive at the Sigandur bus stand or Marakutuka bus stand around 7.15 a.m. the next morning.
At the Sigandur crossroads. You can also get off at Nittur one stop earlier and stroll to Hotel Santosh to begin your hike. This is about a 1.2- kilometer road walk. For more information, consult the Trail Map. The colour blue is used to represent it.
Retrace your steps back to the Marakutuka bus stop if you get off at Sigandoor, which is another official stop after Nittur. After a few hundred meters, you will come to a tiny bridge and the Marakutuka local bus stop. This would also be a favored option.

Look to your right from the Marakutuka bus stop for a mud road. This will lead you to the woodland side. To reach a little brook, you must hike for another 2 km, which takes around half an hour. When you cross this icy brook, your inner child comes out to play.
On the Kodachadri Trek, a Stream Crossing. There is a creek crossing on the walk. If you’re hiking during the monsoon season, be aware of the stream’s strength. Knee-deep water will be present.
